As part of Subway's effort to reduce its environmental footprint, the company began requiring all of their 33,000 locations to change outdoor wall signs and channel letters from neon and fluorescent lighting to energy-saving LEDs. While making this directive, the company was sensitive to franchisees' budgets and knew it was critical to keep the signage costs reasonable to ensure compliance.
Everbrite developed white LED channel letters and cloud sign alternatives to the original neon and fluorescent wall signs. Franchisees have been supportive of these green measures because of their savings on energy and maintenance expenses. Channel letter ROI was immediate and Subway changed specifications to LED, no longer offering neon option. Cloud sign ROI was achieved within 24 months.
